salt stings but thats cuz its helping the wound...when you get a cut and go to the hospital they rinse it with a saline solution to clean it, when i worked as a vet if a dog was cut or had an open wound we'd flush the wound with saline... which is just salt water, sometimes 10 times a day. the salt, i know for terrestrial animals is beneficial to the healing process, and i put salt in my catfish tank all the time just because i believe it helps with there colors some, helps reduce stress when moving things around in the tank and just all in all makes them happier. its completely up to you, hes your fish im just saying what i know. i really hope hes ok though, i love tsn's

Melafix is the way to go in my opinion. It's good for all sores and bacterial infections. It can help prevent infections and speed the healing and it's all natural and doesn't throw your water off like chemicals/meds can. Plus it wont bother the other fish if you can't move him out. Beautiful markings on him. I really hope he gets better fast. Good luck and keep us updated!

My marble cat burnt himself in 3 places, i never done anything to treat him as the water params where spot on so i let nature take its course and it worked. as for my tsn, when i introduced salt it seemed to make him worse than he was, although it was a swim bladder prob so i could be wrong as external wounds are totally diff to internal imo

check the health and illness forum, you'll prolly be better off in there

just looking at the pics, could he have somehow got caught underneath the divider or rubbed back n forth against the netting of the divider?

defo a burn from a heater if it was anything else it would look red and open but its not its like pure burnt flesh.
there are no heaters in the main tank so i don't think it was a burn. I have been doing watercahnges and just making sure the water is pristine

yea doubt it was a burn, mt tsn has a mark like that but smaller on his head, i think he just scraped it, cuz the heater is turned really low, not even enough to really change the water temp. hows he doing now? seem to be getting better?
