Need help putting an animal down

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Consider whether you would like to keep the kitty with you if you move. Even though it's a bit more expensive to cremate now, you can always buy an urn for him later. Sometimes the local animal shelters will have someone who can do it for low cost too. Call up all the vets you can and get quotes, there are huge differences from vet to vet. I use three vets, because they are all good, but sometimes one is lower priced than another. Take care.

I don't know what cats cost around here for cremation, but when I had to have a pair of my dogs put down last year, after the vet bills, I paid $150 to have a plaster footprint with their names made, the girls cremated together, and placed in a tin which I was able to spread and bury in a garden. It was well worth the price to have a physical reminder of the girls, and to know they are resting in a good place.

Check with your vet, they may be able to euthanize your cat and keep her refrigerated/frozen until you can pick her up. Or contact the place you would have her cremated, they may offer similar services or an easy pay plan until you can pick her up.

Hi guys thank you to everyone who's shown support me and my wife really appreciate it, my wife found him dead on his side with his mouth opened not breathing last night,on her way to the restroom she came crying and well it really hit her she's depressed everytime his name is mentioned so I'm biting my tongue really hard,he was taken to the vet this morning, the reason why we hadn't taken him last week was we were hoping and he was eating and drinking a little more....

I'm sorry to hear that, I know how intense the relationships that develop between owners and their pets can get. That's why we refer to them as our kids. And loosing a good pet hurts just as much since they are a member of the family. The best thing to do right now is help your wife get through this. Be there for her, ready to hold and comfort her when she needs it. And to tell her everything will be ok. Best wishes and good luck traveling the bumpy road ahead.

2012-04-18_01-45-19_405.jpg Bad pic, but this is the plaque hanging in my living room. It contains both of their names as well as a paw print. Although it's not much its a constant reminder of them, and although I don't "feel their presence" anymore just my looking at that plaque and holding brings back all of the good memories I had of those those kidsl Helping one learn how a real family treats their pets and that we're not something to be afraid of just because she was horrible abused and neglected by her family once she wasn't a cute puppy anymore. Training my other one what stairs were so she could see the inside of a house for the first time. Over a years worth of work to get her to take a treat without cringing in fear, more than twice that to take a toy and even show some interest in it. Removing anything that reminded them of being from the puppy mills had to be removed and even our mannerism changed. All to help a couple of rescued dongs know what a loving home it, and to get them to get along properly with his baby brother.

I know what you are going through. I had a cat named Bettsy. I know her since she was born. She was a lovely cat. Very smart, nice and lots of character. When i felt not so good she came to cuddle with me. As she was 16 years old she suddenly disappeared. Then few days later i opened the front door and there she was... she was sitting on the doorstep. hardly breathing. shivering and so weak she could not even look up at me. I took her in and few hours later she died. worst day for me.
