Need help- Quiet Large Pump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What is your return line made out of? If it is all hard PVC, vibrations will definitely make it louder. I recommend using some clear vinyl tubing from Lowe's directly from the pump, transitioning to PVC after 8 inches or so.
Agreed, this is an excellent idea. Even a few feet of flexible PVC works wonders. I have also dangled my pump just above the bottom of the sump so it’s not touching anything. Then add a flexible line and it runs real quiet

If reducing noise is a high priority then a sump is not a good filter choice.

If you do need to use a sump and do need to keep it quiet then consider moving the sump outside/other side of the house/ into the basement / into roof space etc.

A sump can still go above your aquarium water level but the roles are reversed. The aquarium itself catches the water.

Idk about this...my tanks with sumps have been BY FAR the quietest tanks I've ran. Since I've switched to DC pumps they are next to silent when properly adjusted.

My 125/100 used to be right behind my sofa and you couldn't hear the setup even with the TV off... You just need a wide overflow, beananimal drain, flex tubing from return pumps, and in my case I used 2 Rio+ 700 gph pumps. The tank literally was silent. I added a Simplicity Protein Skimmer which had good reviews for being quiet and you can hear it if you listen for that but don't really notice it unless you try.
