Need help selecting a tank

I like the 36×36×24. That being 140 gallon tank, couldn't I have more than the 61 residents in my community?

Depends on the residents and scaping really. If youre keeping smaller type tetras, cories, and a betta like you were thinking before, then i would say around 60 overall is pretty fully stocked.

If you still want to use sponge filters, youre gonna need some pretty large ones and an air pump with plenty of power.

Thanks for the help everyone, when i get the tank in I'll start a new thread and share how setup, cycling and stocking goes ?

Its not that I am against other filter types, I just feel like they would cycle the water bottom to top with out making so much water movement to stress the betta. I think I can hide two 8 inch sponges somewhere lol

Im a big sponge filter fan myself. Ive used aquatop 180s or 250s in my 135-200 gallon tanks with good results. Theyre perfect if youre not looking for a lot of flow, but with a strong pump can still move quite a bit of water.

Youd probably only need one of those 250s. Smack dab in the center with plants around it would be my setup.
