need help sexing a festae

They only peak at 12'' so I would go for male on this one.

It's often easy to tell at 4-5" but there are those that will trick you. I give it a 50/50 chance it could go either way. Don't be surprised if it turns out to be female is all I'm saying. I could sex my F1's from Rapps at 3" but check out this thread where John Rambo's Festae even fooled Modest Man. And then HOuse_64 said his did the same thing. LOL if it's a male at least with this I won't look as much like an idiot .

Im betting on male, but with some good food, that dorsal could colour up to a nice black leaving you with a female. Time will tell.

I am going with male. It will be 100% certain in half an inch. The fact that the faint blue is there is throwing me off. Festae become 100% without a shodow of a doubt sexable at 5 inches. The spangling and green point to male though.

Thx for your answears, the blue colour has gotten a little blacker since yesterday...

My female has spangling on her fins. She got them at about 5" and is now 7".

I'm going to go against the grain and say female. I'm judging mostly by the head and the dorsal. You can see faint black on the dorsal. I'd wager that with proper feeding and about a month in her new surroundings, she'll look much more female.
