It's a male. I have about the same size, when he goes in the light his spots aren't really visible but when he's beside my lava rock all the spots become visible.. Females don't get spots at his age and size he's starting to come out of the juvenile stage and starting to show coloring and spotting. In about 2 months if that the colors definitely start to pop more.

Definitely get the Oscar out. The dovii will soon become even more aggresive when that kill switch hits. The oscars jaw strength has no match to theirs. It would be like a chihuahua vs. A pitbull for example.

Thats normal spotting with females. The spots are also positioned in the middle of the body below the horizontal line. Females also have that shady barring running down the spine.

Males at that size will have a lot more colour and spots in the fins and tail.

Okay mine looks the same but has glowing blue by the gills and blue on all fins. And spotting above the lateral line

Sounds like you may have a male. Dose it have noticeable spots in the fins and tail? Post a pic and i will give you my best opinion.
