Need help Sexing my Dovii

Trying to get a good photo is almost impossible. Would venting be an option at this size?

Can you tell if it's male or female it's about 4 inches

Thats a female bro. At 4 inches it should be showing a lot more spotting and colour, especially in the fins and tail.

I can also see that light barring down its spine.

Nope no spottings on fins just glowing blue on all. Just started showing black dots above lateral about a week ago

Haha growing out doviis is the most frustrating experience in this hobby that i have encountered. Your best bet for growing out a male is to buy like 6 of them together. At around 4/5 inches you will be able to spot the males from the rest.

But if you want to try your luck

But if you want to try your luck with picking just one when small, my best tip is to look for the one that has a lot more colour and spots in the fins and tail. Dont always go for the biggest and most dominant one in the tank.

I buy my dovii from a fish farm so I can buy them at about 4-5 inches and request they pick out the ones that they believe are males

Yeah thats a nice option to have. I would get a few of them just to be safe, but at 4/5 inches its pretty obvious to sex doviis.

I would also recommend you change your substrate to a darker substrate. Like black or natural river sand. This will help bring out their spots and and make their colour pop more when growing them out from small.

Sounds like you may have a male. Does it have noticeable spots in the fins and tail? Post a pic and I will give you my best opinion.

yes it has dark blue two tail fins find below the grills and when provoked it top fins sparked up with nice light blue spots all over.. but the tail a bit only

the side face area appear big complex black spots and mouth area will appear light green especially at the lip

just about 3" it started to wanted to fight with my 7" Jag zzz ( i have to put divider )
