Need help sexing this GT

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i got him for 20 bucks. this store around my way was having a close out sale. had him for about a couple of months. he is still not eating well. wont really come up to take some food. only eats the sinking pellets i give my catfish. the only time i see him active is when my male manguense swims near him he flares up to challenge him.

i agree he does look a little thin but if he is not eating normally for a growing fish then thats no surprise. i suggest mixing a darker substrate into what you have or replacing it completely with a natural colour and something to darken up the background and break it up noy only for your viewing but it will help his confidence. also decorate with wood and rocks. although GT's arent cave dwellers by nature they still like a place to have as a territory and putting in wood/rocks/fake plants will give him markers and extra to patrol for intruders giving him something to do.

thinking about putting a female in there. maybe that would make him more active. gonna try the darker gravel and some more driftwood. thanks u guys rock

i suggest you leave out the female for the moment and get your boy healthy, eating well and more confident otherwise she may go in and be the more confident fish and bully him which will only stress him more and possibly she may kill him by stress.

Definately get darker gravel, black is best. Change the background to black also. Given at least 6500K bulbs, you will have a totally different fish!

you should try some other foods for him. I would try frozen bloodworms, krill or nightcrawlers. If the other fish are more aggressive during feeding time try isolating him and then feeding.
