Need help st or ct

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Woah! 6k! How big is the fish? It looked like 12" or smaller..

If I kept mine, I could buy a brand new lexus now xD

I'd say ST, because of the full wrapped tail.

As for overall features, 1) it's too small to determine if the fish will have a high back or not (like a peacock bass hump), 2) body shape - as many fishermen and even myself still believe that's how to distinguish between a male & a female datnoid (no scientific proof) slender elongated body as male and round body as female.

Also, by looking back at my old photo (it hurts to see), I have CT that had round body shape too.
Fish is only 8"

I do have a gut feeling that there will be an abundance of these CT datnoids coming in at some point in time and then gone with the wind again

It's been around for awhile (not in North America, but in Asia)

It's been on a Chinese website called toubao or something (I lost the link, I have to find it again)

They sell ST (real ST) for 2-3k usd and up, maybe Monster Aquarium got it from there / China. If the shop got the fish for 2-3k + shipping + tax + import fee + profit. The 6k sounds reasonable in my opinion.

Fish is only 8"

post this fish when it hit 15"+, by then everyone will say it's a ST! :)

It's looks like a girl (no scientific proof), because I can see the ball shape already, and it's a VERY nice fish! :)

All true STs in the wild are all gone. Theres no true STs other than the ones we own. If its a true ST, they are all 15+ inches

And 718, please don't take this as a personal attack, because it is not. I just want to share my knowledge and experience to the tiger community. If I offended you, I am sorry.

One valid point you can argue against the pic that I showed was not a true ST can be based on the tail section. The v tail marking of a true ST shouldn't be attach to the soft dorsal fin's black mark.

To this date, it is very controversial and debatable, because large ST like Tk1's is not attached. But if you look at m class's (I forgot his name) recent transaction (the ST that sold to the state), the marking is attached and the fish looks like Johnaro's small tiger.

I dont take offense. Its a good debate for all of us to learn more about datnoids.

A lot of STs dont have the perfect ST classic tail markings so we cant say they are not true STs. I differentiate ST/CT base on overall features such as tail markings, body shape, color, etc...

The ST and CT are collected in differnt areas. I truely believe classic true ST are extinct in the wild now at the particular loc and we still have these CTs left in the wild at different loc. Thats why in my opinion, those true classic STs are all now 15+ inches in people's aquarium. Its my opinion. I read a govt report somehwere few yrs ago that says ST is extint in the wild
