I think I might have so kind of infection in my tank. I bought 5 NTT datnoids the other day from the LFS. I did not quarantine them. It has been 4 days since I had them in the tank. Yesterday I noticed one of the NTT has some kind of infection near the gills - red color and looks kind of inflamed, it's not in the gill but outside of it on the gill plate. I was looking at my Arowana and noticed that it is twitching, fins twitch, mouth, barbels twitches. I think the NTT's have some kind of infection. Anybody might know what this is and the right treatment? The Aro is about 17" and the NTT are about 2-3". The tank is 168g filled about 80%. I also noticed the Aro is staying at the bottom of the tank sometimes, this is the first time I've seen it do that. Any help is appreciated it.

before introducing any new fish in the tank you are suppose to quarantine them
in a separate tank.
golden rule number 1.

the OP knows that, and is aware of the error, but that doesn't change the fact that once the mistake of skipping quarantine was made, now it is time to help solve the problem not remind someone of their mistake.

If it is indeed flukes, might be time for one of the harsh meds out there, perhaps clout, though flukes are hard to kill off

I know I should have quarantine them but don't have spare tank. I wasn't thinking straight, was thinking I had to get them before someone does. Should I wait couple days and see if it gets better or should I start treatment? Should I use salt or wait? Going to get some medication later when I get off work just to have on hand. Any input is appreciated.

never heard of that type of behavior pics mught help you out

I got rid of a case of flukes with prazipro recently. It is powerful and safe. It didn't even mess up my parameters. I tried jungle parasite cure once and it caused an ammonia spike.
However. I'm not 100% sure that what I had was flukes. I'm not even close to being an expert on parasites. PraziPro takes care of a lot of different infestations though.

I would start meds (if you know what the fish has) ASAP! and you should always have salt in your water
1 tablespoon per 5 gallons... GL and keep us updated!
agreed....salt and meds. maybe even raising the heat up might work.

you're not the only one that didn't have room to QT- really dont need to make any excuses for anybody (I honestly do not sometimes for different reasons) I'm sure if people were more honest they would admit they didn't either no reason to feel like a louse about it- it happened now just gotta figure out what they have

do salt for now it also helps reduce stress in the fish and make them more comfortable dealing with what they got and once you figure out what it really has- might be a combo - red inflamed gills might mean several things including water quality not because the fish is infected with something- just gotta watch the fish like a hawk and try to reduce stress with the fish as much as possible
