need help to build refugium.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a refugium worked into my sump. Works very well. My nitrAte creeps to ~ 15 ppm. I am using low lights, wysteria and swords. I've used coon tail in the past and got excellent results.

I divided a 40 G breeder into three sections, in half for the fuge then the other section in half for the bio/ mech and pump chamber. This leaves me about 15 - 20 gallons for plants.

I recently added a cleanup crew of dwarf shrimp in there and they are breedin like rabbits. The occasional baby makes it by the pump and the fish go crazy hunting them down.

:iagree: Please share some photo's.

There must be more people that have something to offer on this subject.

I use the same concept in my sumps. I use a ton of java moss & ferns, wisteria, swords, and ludwigia. For lighting I just use cheapo clip-on lights & CFL bulbs from the hardware store. Instead of shrimp, I breed snails in some of the fuges...
