don't let him have his way, if you ever want him to eat pellets or other foods, i suggest you starve him and toss in a piece of meat every day or 2 until he realizes hes not gunna get anything else. When faced with starvation a SH will 99% of the time take the food they are given.
PS feeders can bring diseases so, you can't feed him feeders forever, it's too risky. Also pellets are more healthy for him/her
