I've never had to treat for ich before now, so I am unsure of the best way to get rid of it. I have read a few threads regarding this and there seems to be some contradicting info on the use of salt. Some say it will not treat ich, some say it does.

I purchased Waterlife Protozin last week and treated the tank with this. However, the fish which initially had whitespot no longer does, but a few of the other fish do. so the treatment did not work:( Now I am stuck on what to do.

The tank is 120 gallons, ph 7, nitrate<10ppm, nitrite and ammonia 0ppm, temp 78F. 20% water change 2-3 times a week.

Inhabitants: Silver Aro 7", Jewel, Green Terror, Flowerhorn, Jack Dempsey and 2 Jaguars. Cichlids all under 4".

Added Java Fern and Java Moss 2-3 weeks ago and added the FH 10 days ago. FH developed Ich, which is when purchased Protozin. Now GT and Jags have ich, FH doesnt. Aro acting a bit strange and JD rubbing on the rocks.

I need a decent med that is available in the UK, or would the salt and heat method work?

Is the salt method suitable for my fish and plants? Is the best dose 1 teaspoon per gallon? What temp do I increase to? How long must I keep salt in the tank?

Help greatly appreciated!

for the fish salt and heat work wonders i dont know if the salt will harm your plant or not

what about the aro, i think the cichlids are fine?

ya ive done it with an aro without any problems

I use 1 rounded heaping tablespoon for each 5 gallons of water and I bump the temp from 78-80 up to 88. The combo of heat and salt kills Ich every single time, and I have done this a bunch of times on tanks across America. When you do a water change estimate how much water you have taken out and put the proper level of salt back in. You need the heat and salt levels at these levels for nothing shorter than 14 days. Do it and kiss the Ich good bye.....

Salt and heat works great. If push comes to shove try CopperSafe by Mardel and follow their dosage instructions printed on the box. Make sure you remove all activated carbon media from your filters.

88 seems really high i'm sure that will kill my fish and plants!

has anyone successfully treated ich with JBL Punktol Ultra?

I am generally very impressed with JBL products

im on my seventh day of using the salt and heat treatment. After the 3rd day it kept getting worse and i thought it was failing. By the 4th morning the spots were dramtically reduced, now they are completely gone. Take the temp to 86 degrees, add a powerhead or air pump if you are concerning about the oxygen levels dropping due to the increased temp. You can take you salt to 0.1%, 0.2% or 0.3% depending on the species in the tank...i don't know the salt tolerance of many fish but 0.2 worked for me. I have a red terror, polypterus enderlicheri and a pleco. If i remember correctly 0.1% would equal 1 teaspoon per gallon. But double check this, go to the fish health and disease sticky. The instructions are there. goodluck and don't panic right away if the salt treatment doesn't work the first few nights.

thanks for everyones help i'll try that tonight
