Sooo.. The Comets and fantails are going to be food for the bullheads?

I agree. Good point.

Gar man, I replied in your thread in AC. Neither of your choices are appropriate for the stock plan. See thread below for my replies in case some future questions and answers may be similar and already said in the other sister site.

You do not need a scavenger to clean the mess. Get a filtration system or do twice a week water changes with vacuuming. You really have a limited set of options considering goldfish are quite messy.

Goldfish themselves will pick the bottom of the tank also scavenging for food. A few people I used to know kept a goldfish or two in there community tanks as scavengers not that I recommended it because of the coldwater tropical and there fins seemed to be delicacies for tetras barbs gouramis etc...

Neither...

Bullheads and crayfish will both eat goldfish given the chance. W/O filtration, just under stock w/ a dozen or so goldfish and don't overfeed. Since there is no water movement, mosquitos will provide plenty of additional food for the fish. Water changes are a must w/o a filter.

so if i get a half dozen goldfish and i stock the pond with a crap load of plants would i be able to get away with it? and how do i make a diy pond filter?

You could stock the 300 gallon with koi as long as you stay under 5 fish and keep a strong filter.

Could you please elaborate why you suggested koi? Did you consider the size in comparison to goldfish?

i wasnt even going to say the "k" word lol they get far to big for my pond

I suggested koi because even though they get 4ft at times , they come in better color morphs. Goldfish can also reach 3ft with the right diet, so Koi would just need a pond with enough surface area and swiming room and they would get fat and happy. If all large fresh and marine fish that approache the size of koi were held to the standards of koi ponds we would all be out of a hobby.
