crayfish and fish dont really mix...fish sleep at night and crayfish like to eat sleeping fish .....ive been breeding crays for about 10 years...i think your having your self on if u think crays and fish can live together

I suggested koi because even though they get 4ft at times , they come in better color morphs. Goldfish can also reach 3ft with the right diet, so Koi would just need a pond with enough surface area and swiming room and they would get fat and happy. If all large fresh and marine fish that approache the size of koi were held to the standards of koi ponds we would all be out of a hobby.
That's highly unusual. I have never seen goldfish reach more than 18 inches. Where did you find a 3-ft goldfish? Even so, koi don't reach four feet. Two to three feet is the norm. Hybrids are in-between.

ok my mom said that i cant spend money on a pond filter ("you dont need it do you see farm ponds with a filter?") so if i put alot of plants in the pond could i get a school of rosy red minnows for the pond instead?if so then how many?

so if i get a half dozen goldfish and i stock the pond with a crap load of plants would i be able to get away with it? and how do i make a diy pond filter?

maybe look into bog fiters,as they combine plants an filter.

skip the bullheads and crayfish unless you going to go full native.

As for the size I would not have any second thoughts on keeping koi in there but not 5 maybe 2-3.

If someone posted an aquarium on here that was 6'x4'x1.5' and had it stocked with 3 koi you can guarantee nobody would be giving them a hard time...the only difference in your setup is the lack of a filter and the fact that its outside.

Add that to the fact hat your willing to do water changes and possibly look into making a diy filter and there should be no reason for anybody to tell you not to be stocking a 300g pond with a few koi.

That being said I have a pond with the same dimensions aside from being about a foot deeper and I have 3 koi, a large sarassa, and a large shubunkin (sp?).

true but that foot deeper will make the pond almost 200 gallon bigger then mine and im thinking im going to go with a large school of like 200 rosy red minnnows. would this work with many hiding places and lots of plants like hornwort and some other native plants? im also going to get a heater to keep the pond ice free during the winter.
