I'm wondering if it's what Justin had stated, that they don't do well with Daemons. Seems like the ONLY other coincidence between our tanks.

To clarify Sean, I was more stating long term husbandry, they would not do as well being adults housed together. Not to say it can't be done, just that growth rates, coloration and behavior may be affected. I was not implying S. Daemon or any other Satanoperca species would be the cause of death to the A. Heckelii. The Satanoperca group has to be one of the most peaceful cichlid species out there.

Sorry you guys are all losing them, I've been there too and it sucks... :( just be glad yours are still young and you haven't raised them out to a decent size yet.

Just curious - are any of the heckelii bloated up? Makes me wonder with the heavy breathing and whitish feces that it could be bloat. I just lost 2 nanos to bloat recently under the same circumstances. Just a thought.

Paul,
I'm assuming its bloat too since they had the white poop. My concern is what's causing it. It seemed like it happened overnight once they went into my 75gal. All of them were fine and eating hours before I transferred them.
The remaining 4 look to be fine. I have the UV running since yesterday. Will do a 50% WC tomorrow and keep an eye on the survivors.

From what I've learned(the hard way), its best to catch these things early and treat them early. It sounds like you're keeping an eye on it and hopefully have caught whatever this may be early enough to save what you have left. Best of luck.

yikes, sucks that you guys have been having a hard time with heckels, only thing id say to do is maybe try lowering the temp a little. from what ive read, heckelii arent quite as warm, soft water loving as fish like altums or daemons. gl with them :)

EDIT also if you feel it is bloat, meds and spriluna flakes should be religion;)
