Ok, I'm changing my little 75g from gravel to sand. I bought pool filter sand. I've already removed all the gravel. Now what is the best method for putting in the sand. Do I drain the tank, add sand and refill. Can I add the sand to a filled tank? If so, how?? What is the best way to add sand?? Just need some pointers from some of you guys that have experience with this. I just want to do this right. Thanks!

I have been searching for a while for what kind of substrate to use for a sand look but negatives to almost everything I've read. for some reason I compltely missed pool filter sand .. read up on it and everything seems to be perfect about it so I plan to pick some up now. Can I ask where you bought it and where else it is available?

bought it at a pool supply store. really cheap 7 dollars per 50 pound bag.

I recently did mine. I rinsed really well in a 5 gal bucket and stirred slowly, removing the brownish water until it was almost clear. maybe rinsed for 5 min. then I drained off as much water as I could from the bucket and got a small bowl to scoop the wet sand up in. I gently added the sand to the tank by submersing the bowl of sand to the bottom and gently poured it around. easy:headbang2 never had to empty any water from my tank

Not quite sure, but it seems this would do the trick if you can't find any locally.

But the shipping is atrocious.

I found this too...but I'm not sure about it either:

But it says shipping is only $8 for me.

Yeah, now I see you're in Canada...I'm an idiot. Sorry about that. Good luck.

In Arizona there's a pool store on every block. My next tank will have sand for sure, right now I'm far too lazy to switch it out.

yah I'm sure there is down there with the heat. Most provinces are like that up here too .. but Atlantic canada where I'm from is different .. not warm enough etc for many people to have inground pools ..
