Read Brian's post and you'll be glad you did. I asked a similar question before but after reading his post on my thread I accepted the fact that there's nothing I can do to prevent DE. And my aro is only 8" but starting to develop DE. Just keep it healthy and lots of TLC.

You want to know what happens with a shallow tank? It induces your aro to jump. It doesn't do anything other than that.
cover your tanks all sides black and lower the water level. I saw it worked out by that way before. Good luck.
Its urban legends. If there were a cure thousands of silvers would be fixed. Your aro jumping alot is prolly just natural. Especially if your parameters are in check
The best way to cure it is a "For Sale" sign. Its luck of the draw, learn to love it... nothing at any fault of yours. On a side note I had really good luck keeping them alone untill they are about 6-8 inches.. but like I said is all luck of the draw.
