Need help with flowerhorn..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Heyy guys I purchased this flowerhorn last week for 46$.
Basically I have many doubts.
1) what breed it is?
2)Is it a ball head Flowerhorn?
3)is this guy worth this price?
4)will it grow in a monster(personally I'm big kok lover) ?
And it's current size is 4inch and i feed him fd-shrimps and chingmix

1 rd or srd.
2 wtf is ball head
3 yes nice color on this one
4 no or it would be showing it already

I assume ball head is just meaning big kok. You can pump them up and some maybe late bloomers but at 4" it should be already on its way. $46 is a lot to spend on a fish but in terms of fh its cheap. You didn't get ripped but understand top quality fh are really expensive. Here is a smaller fh showing kok for example

Hmm ok let's wait and watch my fhs progress... Only time can tell.

Thx man... I called the importer he said that my tank is very big (100 gallon) so he is gaining length first then kok and also suggested to keep him in 35-40gallon for 1-1.5 months until he gets kok which compliment his body.... I don't know whether he is right or not but I'm giving his theory a shot.. So kept him in partition with piggy my giant gourami.. His partition space is 40gallon... Please tell me whether I'm being fair to my fh or not.. .

Give it time, same batch doesn't always mean all fish will show same characteristics, generally you get about 10% quality fish out of the batch, if that.

I would like to note that tank size doesn't affect the size of your fish. The FH will grow as long as it's genetics will allow, otherwise if you put a baby parrot in 1000gal tank it would stretch out right? LOL I have kept FH in tiny cube tanks and very long open tanks. When they are small they will grow faster in a smaller tank since they are able to get food easier. Also note if you have a lot of water flowing through your tank, heavy current, this can cause the fish to work harder and thus stay skinny instead of becoming a beefcake.
