Hey I just acquired my first pike cichlid. At my LFS it was in a tank just labeled South American cichlids. I knew it was a pike. So I scooped it up. Now I’m needing a little help with IDing the specific species. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 115BA8DE-B28F-4AE5-B81B-AAF538BA5453.jpeg

You might be better off posting in the Crenicichla area, but just for comparison here are a couple shots of belly crawlers I had.

above female, as you can see, colors vary with mood, age and situation.
Now a male below

The biggest problem I have with IDing pike cichlids, are that there are at least 75 separate species, and then many location variants that can look very different from one another, so unless you get a very obviously distinctive featured species like celidochelidus, or with colors like C sp atabato, its difficult to tell many apart.
So with my limited experience, I could not venture a guess.
Below Crenicichla saxatillis from Uruguay, just to compare
