i have a few problems that i need help with. my bichir is not eating, he wont eat feeder fish, he wont eat the silver sides right in front of his face and he just swims away. i read on another thread to try beef heart but he wont eat that either. we've had him for awhile now and he has really bad eating patterns where he wont eat for weeks at a time. also his color is alot lighter than all the other ornate's i've seen and from when we first got him. any suggestions would be grateful. thanks

Post some pics of him, we would be able to help u better.. What other fish r there in the tank..? Check the water paramaters..

Bichirs fast a lot... don't worry too much about it as long as the fish isn't getting very thin or having any other health problems. Yes, you should check your parameters, but just know that they like to do this I'm-not-going-to-eat-just-to-scare-you thing fairly often... I had a bichir go literally three months without eating. I think they do it just to mess with you lol

Keeper

keeper just about said it all. when mine dont eat for a while i buy these big fresh water shrimp we get here ( look like ghost shrimp but 10 times bigger) and leave them in the tank, if they do wanna eat when i am not looking the snack on these guys.

here are some pics of my bichir. i've tested tested my water and everything there is ok. these pics suck cuz its with my phone (i lost our camera :irked:). thanks for the help so far

I think he lost his appatite after you caught him getting initiated behind that rock by the JD...

Get him some PINKy mice or some Rainbowfish and he will color right back up and show some PRIDE and be SPLASHing around in not time....

Living In Austin TX I know way to much about alternative cultures.....

Yeah dont sweat it. I never see my ornate eat...yet he keeps growing :)
