I have a couple Aquaclear 110s I decided to dig back out and use. One the case was broken, so I replaced the case. I replaced the impellers and U tubes on both of them. I made sure I cleaned everything really well. One of them makes a terribly loud grinding noisy. The other one is quiter, but still is somewhat noisy and makes a slight grinding sound. Is there a way to fix this? I don't remember them being quite this loud before. After spending money on replacement parts I don't really want to not be able to use them. I considered ordering new motors, but they're a little pricey for something I'm not sure would fix the problem. I took the impeller out of the noisy one and plugged it in and it was quiet. I don't know if the aquaclear motors are mag drive, so they have a rotor spinning inside the case. Should I try cleaning them again and lubricate the rotor shaft? Thanks.

Well I did a little looking around and see it's probably a worn impeller shaft. I ordered 2 ceramic shafts for an eheim 2217 to try.
I am all ears mine is annoying. If I cant fix it I will be very frustrated. Its only 5-6 months old and Ive already had to replace parts.
I am surprised you are having problems with aquaclear filters. I have a dozen of them running (some for 20-30 years) and never had to replace any parts. Filters are silent. IMO, the best aquarium filter ever made.
Yea I find them amazing. Both of mine were bought used and are amazing only noises that every bother me is If tthe lid comes out of place and vibrates against the other plastic. Then I just put it on better

In the aquarium they were on before I had sand. I'm sure the impeller shafts just got damaged from that. I agree they seem to be good filters. I have an Aquaclear 70 that's silent, except the occasional lid rattle.
It's surprising they don't improve on them a little. At least making a non-rattling lid would be nice.

I replaced the I impeller shafts today with ceramic ones for an Eheim 2217. The filters are really quiet now. Well except a little trickling noise. Any suggestions on how to make no splashing noise?

It has a sump, so the water level is set by the overflow. The water is actually touching the bottom edge of the filters though. Only one of them is making a splashing sound. The other is silent.

You can attach a bit of plastic to the filter lip using some silicone that allows the filter water to drop below the normal tank water level. Of course this has to be done with a dry filter and 48 hour cure time for the silicone.
Or you can wedge a piece of filter foam between the underside of the filter lip, between the rear tank glass and the filter.
