need help with pump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow! thank you guys for all the advice! single sump it is, so the mag drive 4000 is it? whos it made by?

also, in regards to physical filtration.... how do you guys do it on your sumps? i would do the DIY trickle filter type, and add a physical chamber before the scubbies (bio)

oh whoops i meant the QO 4000. kinda mixed them up haha.

i was lookin at the specs on that pump, dont you think its a bit of an over kill?

1017 gph seems like alot.

with 150 total gallons (two 75 gal tanks) thats like.... at least an 8 times turnover.

dont i only need like.... 3-5 times an hour?

Remember...you loose for every foot in height, every elbow, fitting everything...
1017 is the rating at the pump with no load or head...

Actually if it were me I'd be shooting for 10x turn over...

maybe with that explanation it seems to fit....

but 10 times just seems a bit overkill to me. i mean, more power to those of you that shoot for this, but most of my other tanks have done very well for a very long time at 3-4 times an hour.

although that could be in part to my habit of cleaning prefilter stuff out just about every week.

one more question... im using a pvc overflow, would it be a good idea to fit a sponge to the "mouth" of the inlet tube? these tanks will be used as breeders, and i deffinatly dont want and fry to become filter fodder.... been there done that
