Need help with recently purchased African Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow sorry I didn't know there were so many comments on here. I've been really busy. On the plus side of things I fully stocked my tank with Mbuna. Here is a video I was able to mainly male take with a few female here and there.

I appreciate all the great feedback and help. The fish farm I visited had thousands of cichlids. If anyone is looking for a certain fish let me know he does shipping as well. But I have read through all the comments and I'm a little worried now. Lol I will keep a eye on the aggression as the fish mature. And hopefully it don't get too out of hand. I plan on upgrading the tank to at least a 72" 100 gallon at minimum. And as many of u stated you went from mbuna to haps, peacocka, and Tanganyikas I may have to do so as well. That is if my fish do end up killing each other. On the plus side the guy I got the fish from said I can come back at anytime and trade my fish out. He was very knowledgeable and knew a lot about the fish. We spent nearly 2 hours talking about the fish, behaviors, and maintenance. So all n all I might have made a mistake by going with mbuna but at the same time I guess I will learn from my mistakes as many have.

What species/counts/genders did you end up with?

The ratio of male to female is 4to1 but the species I don't recall all of them. The seller told me them but after a few I forgot a lot of them. Lol 37 total

That's a lot for a 75G...maybe call him and get the species names for future reference. I like 4 species in that size tank (depending on the species).

Well a quick update on the tank. The fish all seem to be doing well. Although I have been battling a water cycle issue. Since so many fish were added at one time it threw my water cycle off and raised the ammonia and the nitrite. In order to keep the levels down I have been doing small water changes daily and adding Prime ever other day. Also I took some substrate and filter media from a already cycled tank and added this. Since then its been looking alot better and has been improving by day. If anyone is interested in updates just let me know. If not I will request for this tread to be removed. :)
