Need help with skiddish red isletas.

I been there before and even recently somewhat with my jaguar cichlids...i spooked him playing around with a hand held mirror and he went skittish on me for about a week...the tank is in a semi finshed basement...was getting ready to go out one day and had a black coat and hat.. had to run in the basement for a minute and the fish damn near jumped out of the tank...after that i had to approach the area around the tank slow and not really sit in front of the tank....they would come out cautiously when i was down there for a while...the male is now reacclimated to me ..the female always has been reclusive..the tank is divided which does make them try to be near each other in their attempts to dig under..maybe somthing for you to try temporarily.. also lighten up the gravel might help..

The wife isn't too thrilled about me asking to raise my tank to almost 60 inches. Not sure she will let me do it.

Is it worth the work to raise a tank for something that may not even work?? Just sounds like another fish your unhappy with... My advice would be patient an wait him out. He'll come around eventually espescially if they breed. I went like two months without seeing my male Umbee daily and now he's out all the time. Also a reason I never buy adult fish with already set ways and always buy small juvies. You have to realize ways things were done with him for so long is no more.

I usually don't buy adult fish for that same reason but I took a chance. I'm not unhappy with him at all and the grammodes I almost sold is doing great now and I love her. The isletas is fine and I'm sure will get better over time I'm just worried he will harm himself due to his size and only being in a 75 gallon
