Could anyone please help me identify the type of turtle I have? It came with a 125gallon tank I purchased from someone. It has this creepy blank stare but still kind of cute. From what I can see online it most closely resembles a mud turtle but not sure 100% sure as the shell has a less pronounced ridge. Would like some answers from any of the turtle experts here! Thanks in advance! :)

I have 3 platies, 2 tiger barbs and a gourami in there with him. 3 weeks since I've had the tank and they are fine... but sadly my poor turtle is dead now. That's why I was trying to identify him... So I can see if my care was not up to par. I was taking care of him in the same manner as my 2 red ear sliders, even better than the sliders at times since he's much cuter than the other 2.

probably drown him in the 125 that full from the pic :( most shelled turtles cannot handle large depths of water. Rule of thumb is to always keep a turtle in water the depth of its own shell. I kept shelled turts for years as a kid with no problems in a pond but actually drown alot when i got older putting them in large tanks. my 300 gal claimed 3 before i realised what was happening.

there is a way to revive turtles with water in there lungs so dont declare him dead immediatly lol...theres a thread about it here somewhere

I promise you that is not the issue. If turtles were to drown in deep water, they wouldnt exist in areas with deep water. as long as there is a spot for them to get completely out of the water they will be fine.

Y is there a thread about this topic if its not a common occurence in our hobby?
