Need Help With Type of Piranha

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
reds are pretty easy to breed as long as you have male and female in your ground.
don't try to cohab blacks (assume you mean rhombeus) unless you have 1000g+ tank.

Yeah, I had read that you should not keep the rhom's together but I thought as 1"er's it would not be a problem until they grew a bit...I will go with the Caribe's and see how they grow....I do have one Gold by himself in a tank and he is very aggressive....Just burns through fish when I drop the feeders in.

Any advice on breeding the red bellies?

Thanks for the input...I appreciate it.

even at one inch they'd annihilate each other. they may co exist together temporarily but they do not like tankmates. i really want to know how they breed in the wild.

If I get just one 1" rhom how long could I keep him in a 29 Gallon....or at what size should I bump it up to a 55 than a 75+?

Yeah that would be interesting to know...How hard is it to breed the Caribe's?

sorry, was looking for a breeding thread for you but i can't find it. i'd rather you hear about breeding from the horse's mouth.

you could probably keep the rhom in a 29 gallon for quite awhile. i had mine in a 20 for atleast 4-6 months but it didn't seem like it was growing. 3 weeks after putting it in the 75, it put on an inch. i didn't measure it at all when it was in the 20 so it could just be a case of me looking at it everyday and not noticing it grow...everyone visitor said it was getting bigger but i didn't see it. i can def tell it's growing in the 75 though.

I have the 29 gal ready, but I am going to try and pick up at least a 75 and get it all set up and cycled now. I appreciate the help. I will get everything set up and post pics in the near future....

Thanks
