Yey bay bay
Hi
Lately ive been only doing WC once a week in my over populated 180g, i do 80% once a week due to having a new baby, my stock are
18 poly 12"-15"
12 SD 5"-6"
4 pinktail 5"
I already found someone who will take my 12 SD and 4 pinktail to reduced my stock.
Ive been told to do more WC 3x aweek and add more bio media.
Open to any advice i can get.

Thank you.

My suggestion is cut back on feeding especially if it is done everyday and multiple times a day. If fish are mature they can be fed every other day. Atleast do this until you lower your stock .

Man life happens to all of us. Atleast you care about rectifying the sistuation.

Hopefully you'll get allot of feedback from other members. For starters increase the wc's to bring down your currecnt levels.

Definitely need to add more bio. I use a mix of matrix, eheim pro, and biomax. Memebers even use pot scrubbies so lets see what everyone suggests. I'd probably look to uograde the pump as well.

Also drastically cut down feedings.

Guys lets give him a hand.

Just to add. When i add the high nitrate issues with the 150 i cut feedings to twice a week maybe 3. Wc's were 2 or 3 fin levels possibly a 50% too

How long has the tank been running? You need to ensure you are dosing the tank volume with prime every 24-48 hours. That will eliminate any fish losses while your tank finishes cycling. You should not have nitrite which means that the tank is in the middle of the cycling process. I also agree that you should be doing at least three WC per week while this is getting sorted out. Certainly cut back feeding as well

keep up the prime, keep up the water changes, i would be changing 90% or fin level every other day till nitrites come down to 0. ammonia bad, nitrite is worse. once cycle done, let your nitrate tell you what water changes need to be, strive to not to get over 20ppm on water change day. reducing stock, larger tank, and reducing feeding can help keeping nitrate at a doable water change schedule. Less stock/larger tank well make the biggest impact on that, feeding adds some but by in large your fishes respiration is the largest contributor of ammonia to your water. so while reducing feeding can help. its not the best thing for reducing nitrate build up in the water.

The tank has been up for quite some time. Im thinking insufficient bio media and a very large bio load. I wanted him to post his issue instead of me just telling him what to do that way he gets lots of opinions.

Makes sense. Do we have details on the filtration? How much bio, flow rate, filtration type etc...?

What the rest above me all said!

and ignore your PH, unless you are running black water fish PH is not something you want to mess with and can cause more harm than good unless you are very will schooled in it.
