Hi all,

I recently purchased two mono bass from a lfs, They looked fine at the shop but the second day they were in my established tank they both contracted white spot ( ICH ) I have raised the temp to 30 degrees celsius and added one tablespoon of salt per 20 litre of water they are in a 3x2x2 grow out tank I have two eheim 2217 filters running with one connected to a 18w Ultraviolet light,They are in there with a baby green terror and a pleco, the green terror is fine as is the pleco.Am I doing the right thing and if so how long before I see improvements,If not what else should I do.

Regards

Peter

Your doing the right things to start of with.. are you sure they didnt have ich back at your lfs?? Just keep the temp high and monitor them. When you introduced the fish into your tank did you pour the tank water from the lfs fish bags into your tank aswell? I was told years back that this could introduce ich into your tank. Which LFS did you get them from?

I was certain they did'nt have it at the store there was no sign of it anyway,I never ever pour the water from the fish store into my tanks, I always net the fish from the bucket I use to get them aclimatized. It was a shop in Penrith he got them in specialy for me.

ok cool.. well if what your doing doesent help and the ich gets worse you can try using Ichonex by Aquasonic worked well for me when my loaches had ich before..

Does the ichonex effect the benificial bacteria in the filter system, Thats one reason I try and steer clear of chemicals as it often kills benificial bacteria.

nah it dosent the BB in your tank or filter media at all, best ich meds ive ever used, just remember to remove any Carbon filter media if you have, otherwise the meds wont work..

Pete how are your Monos doing today? Did you get meds or are you sticking with the salt and increased temp? Hope their doing ok :)
