Need help with wood....

Some maples can be iffy. Too much sap. Oak is great as is sycamore. But most hardwoods are good. I usually go wiith a fingernail test. If i can can pry any wood up with my nail it cant go in a tank.
As a further thought. root bundles off of rose bushes are intricate and very much tank safe, but the thinnest roots do eventually break down.
