NEED HELP

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree, looks like a burn to me. And it doesn't look like there is anything else that will have that affect that quickly. Slight chance it is an infection, but it will not grow that quickly. I would bump up the tank temp to like 86F and add salt.

add a little bit of salt and raise the temperature. my female motoro just went through the same thing after the death of my male, minus that big heater burn on the top - ouch! . shes doing much better now. she ate a lot for the first time in over a week today. before she was just nibbling on mysis shrimp.

2 days after i added the salt and raised the temp to 85f i noticed her disc was 100% again

well its to late now. he just died. i just waisted $50. im really pissed off

im sorry to hear that!

i know how it feels i just lost my 7'' motoro almost 2 weeks ago! he was $200!!!

i dont think u wasted $50... i don't feel i wasted $200, i learned a lot from the death of my ray. the experiences i had with him will always be there and will guide me to become a better fish keeper.

thats how i look at it anyways..

wow well i guess i dont have it all that bad seeing that u lost 200 lol. but yea i guess u have to learn from ur mistakes. I guess ill buy a cover for my heaters when I get my next reticulated stingray. and ill try to see if I can get a guarantee next time

funny how nobody picked out how it was decrepitly skinny and curling in the photo's.. between that and the stress of the burn salt and raising the temp would have prob killed it...

heaters should be vertical and stealths are better than glass if going to be in a rays tank... next time buy that more quality ray from a vendor... why i told you to go with the hystrix from pedro ;)

Sand?

IMO, juvenile rays do not do well on sharp or fine sands. Adults seem to not have this problem. Juvenile rays seem to have a more sensitive slime coat, and when compromised it could make bacterial infections more susceptible. Also, sand over .5" thick for a young ray like that will build up pockets of waste that will proliferate bacterial infections of the disc, AKA "Disc Rot" ... larger rays can 'turn-over' deeper substrates through sifting, while juvenile rays can not.

Mike had problems with young pups on substrate like yours, went barebottom and it fixed it. Adults however, no issues, especially Motoro.

Also, the heater burn was probably the nail in the coffin.

Sorry! Better luck (research?) next time!

I would not get a retic again for your first ray. I would spend the extra money and get a motoro. Motoros are better eaters and hardier too. I believe Turkeyboy or Vamptrev have them for sale every time they get a new batch of pups. They also ship too. I have a 5in 8 month old pup for sale, but its pick up only. BTW and like Miles said do your reach first.
