I don't know the pros-and-cons of pantyhose filters, but I suggest you consider that as a possible problem and try using a sponge filter instead . . .

have you checked inside the Fluval to see if there any fry in there?

Yep I took that apart too and there aren't any fry in there...I have 8 left, the other ones just vanished it really weird...
