Synodontis Catfish are always nice for bottom feeders, and my JD doesn't even notice them. Silver dollars look nice as dithers, and I've always had good luck with Firemouth Meeki's. I tried an Oscar, but my JD killed it while I was at work 
, just be careful when adding anything with cichlids, some individuals are more aggressive than others, its always a roll of the dice, and you can't watch the tank 24 hours a day.
Once bigger, they will look absolutely stunning.
