i changed my substrate to pool filter sand bout a week ago and the tank turned all mirky and cloudy..i was told it should go away in a few days but its not..not only dat, the cloudyness seems to be kinda greenish color..im thinking its an algae bloom..if it is..how can i make it go back to crystal clear water? (dats how it was b4) is more filtration gonna help?thanks in advanced

new..i rinsed it several times matter a fact..like a lot

what type of filtration do you have, and what size tank?

i have a 60 gallon with a fluval 304..i had an emperor 400 runnin with it till a week ago..but i took it off cus of my new sandy substrate

The suspended dust was probably the initial cause and is acting as a suspended substrate for algae, more ,f iltration, UV, or macro-plants should help.

Same thing happened in one of my tanks when I started using sand.Double the filtration and 2 90% waterchanges a day apart cleared it right up:thumbsup:

okay..i will change the water tonite and tomorrow nite

algae needs light to grow, you might want to try covering the tank, just for a couple days and it should die the cloudyness should go away tho, cause really all it has to do is settle, how do you have the outlet pointing in the tank??? it might be stirrying the sand up just a bit not much but enough to make it cloudy anyway thats something to think about

well id say the outlet is rather fine with its position, but i have been keeping the light on a lot these days..maybe thats y..thanks dpetit..ill just reduce the amount of life per day for now.
