Seems like you can't discuss silver saums without "A". rivulatus being brought up

You are right about that. Too many 'True GT' spams in the saum threads. To me, 'True GTs' are just one of those many acaras that are not commonly available in the hobby.

I'm not sure either.

I thought I knew saums seeing as how I own 3 gold saums and hope to have 3 silver saums now, and neither of them have black spots on each individual scale.

I've been looking for silver saums for a couple years now and have only ever seen gold saums for sale.

Today I found some juvie "Green Terrors" for sale, and they have silver tips on their fins, so I picked up three.

I've read that MFKers have purchased what they thought were silver saums, only to have them turn gold with more size.

Can anyone judge by my shibby picks and tell if these are true silver saums or perhaps 'true' GT's? Or are they juvie gold saums with no color yet?

The good news is that they are choking down pellets right out of the bag. :D

Thanks in advance for any help I can get... I really hope I have silver saums! :D

I bought a male and female fish that I thought were Silver Saums. Within about two weeks, it became apparent to me that they were Gold Saums, as the color on their fins was turning from white to gold.

However, the "white" on the fish I bought was not as white/silver as the tips of your new fish. It was more dull.

And, like I said, it did not take long before I could tell my fish were Goldsaums- two weeks after I bought them at 3.5 inches or so. So, if you have any doubt, I think you will find out pretty quick.

Good luck, and post updates!

Yeah if it were from petsmart I wouldn't risk it. I only buy fish from LFS that have either been around a while, or have really great looking fish.

So far, these three lil saums aren't settled in enough or large enough to show their true personalities.

My tiny geo (I hope something eats him soon ) is the only fish picking on the new saums, and so far I've seen a few times where the saums seem to get fed up and display their gills and fins to the geo, so they're not push overs either.

My larger gold saums aren't overly aggressive although they do have an occasional display with each other.

That's what I hope doesn't happen, but your words are reassuring, thank you! :)

Judging by the growth on my gold saums over three months, I should be able to get these new ones to a decent size in no time.

I will get updates as soon as I see some noticeable growth, again, thanks! :)
