saw this guy at the lfs where i just got a job and want an id on him. Has a bright red/orange color to it and has a dark marking that runs from the bottom of its eye down at a diagonal. The picks were taken with my camera phone so they suck but I'll try to get a better pic. Fish is about 6-7" and also has slight vertical bands on the top of its back.

Looks like a older xingu 1.

it almost looks like one of the atabapo species or a tapajos red

Either way i think im going to get it because its only like $25-30 and I like it alot. If it is a tapajos red is that a good price?

PEanut do you have any pics of your xingu II when they were this size cause i could probably tell if they are the same fish. Ive got that photographic memory :woot:

I have tons of piktures of all my pikes...just gotta scroll through here...;)...i'll try to find some....its not a tapajos red, and not an atabapo...sorry bro..its a type of xingu...no doubt...just what type is the prob.

I highly doubt it is a red tapjos. I think those run in the $200 range. I really don't think anybody would make that kind of mistake. I hope for your sake it is though. Grow it up and make a pretty penny on it. Or keep it and enjoy. I would go with Xingu 1 or 2.

Here are my xingu II at 6 to 7"....as you can see the have the saddles down their back, and the black 'mascara' run down below their eye...as magan would call it. They also start gettin orangish gill covers... ;)

Main thing to look for is a humerol blotch (black spot) just behind the pectoral fin....xingu II have it, xingu I don't. You can see it in the pictures..

AND heres what atabapo look like...they have a very very distinct tail, and the barred back pattern....unique...;)

Hmm...do they know where it came from? Like where was it collected? Where did they get it from? Trade in? Online dealer? What do they have it labeled as? It looks like a xingu II female...but not really sure...interestin..... any thoughts Scat?

no ideas where it was collected. The guy who works there doesnt know what it is either, and I dont think he knows where it was collected either. Its just labeled pike. Its a high end store and the guy really does know his stuff but he has no clue what this one is.

this fish look similar to the one I'm trying to ID (especially the marking near the eye) but it lacks the defined eyespotnear its tail. It is also a much larger individual.
