I put one of my tank on the ground which has the same level as canister filter. I can only fill half of the tank according to my fish requirement. Now I am having hard time when ever I start the canister filter(every time when I do water change and I do 100% WC)
I am thinking to use DIY PVC overflow at this point. Planning to attach output of overflow to the input of canister.

Is it possible to lower the height of intake from overflow to 4"? Do I need to prime the overflow whenever I do waterchange? (I do 100% water change)

Thank you.
Fred

The problem with this idea is that most canister filters work off of a direct siphon, not an overflow. You would run the pump dry when the water level lowered too much.

Attaching a PVC "overflow" to a canister will defeat the purpose and it will no longer be an "overflow", rather just a oversized silly looking intake pipe with way too many bends in it for it to be functional.

You can build one with the intake lowered with a few minor adjustments to the original design. you'd have to move the "T" and the last elbow, but as long as the bottom loops are even and everything is in the right place it should work just fine.

Why not just hardline the plumbing for the canister so it runs to the bottom of the tank?
That's probably easier.

Amen to that. Use PVC pipe to get the intake to pull from the bottom of the tank instead of the top.

Here is a simple siphon intake designI drew in paint. now the dimensions and diameter of the pvc will depend on ur setup, so I left them out.

2 quick questions,
Why a 100% water change????
Exactly what is in ur tank that keeps u from filling it all the way???
