Hi All,
As you know, I am getting a tub which measure 110x90x25cm (see pic below). The measurement converts to (43" x 35" x 10" estimate) (68G tub). I want to have a good stand that have some space underneath for storage.
-Should I build a DIY stand?
-or buy two stands for 40g breeder tank putting next to each other. And A layer of ply wood will go between tub and stands

My co-worker is suggesting to use angle iron with some bolt and nut(I don't know how to weld). Is it a good idea?

Here is the pic of tub.

*PS this tub will reside in the living room; I don't want to make it too ugly.
Thank you.
Fred

I don't mind the idea of the two stands together. If you do make one out of angle iron I will be checking it out because I might be doing one (welded though) for a 55 gal.

IMO I would build out of wood. Gives you better options for finishing.

Interested in where this is going.....

You need to support not only the edges, but the bottom too. If you support just the edges the tub will flex too much and eventually crack. If you support just the bottom the sides will likely bow. Those are designed to be evenly supported all the way around, like if they were put in a hole in the ground.

+1 for wooden one

easier to make unless you can weld =] 2 easier to finish.

Good luck !

The steel with nut and would give you the strength you need make it basket style and 1/2" wider all the way around and cover with 1/2" ply seal and paint drop tub in. Then fasten 1/4'' ply with self drilling screws to steel stand to create your frame to fasten the finishing wood to and doors for storage.

I think if it's 3/8" thick or better it shouldn't bow; looking at how its built like a kitchen sink the flange around the top will prevent it from bowing and if you wanted to be safe you could frame it and still get away without a basket design.

I need to get past the big question of why you're putting a big blue tub in your living room?

If you need it supported on bottom and sides as stated below...make a wood stand with a flat bottom and an edge that matches the height of the tub. place tub on stand...fill space on sides with sand...this will simulate how these things are set up in the ground...cap off top so sand stays where it belongs and tub is supported on all sides.
