right now I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 three spot gouramis (:irked:not my idea, bad idea in the first place, my dad bought them along with 10 other fish which they killed:cry:) 1 cory cat, and 1 buffalo head. Is there anything else I could put in here that the gouramis would not kill or pester? Right now I'm planning on planting this quite heavily and placing a log for a cave/cover for protection from the big bullies. Also after this summer of working I want to make a very large reef tank, I have some Ideas so of that I will list. Also thinking about getting a larger freshwater tank.
-mandarin goby
-cardinal fish
-algae blenny
-damsel fish
-six line wrasse
-boxfish(maybe don't know a lot about them)
Do you think this would work out? If not why? The reef would be at least 70gallons with lots of live rock and coral. What else would I be able to put in here?

for the fresh water I'm also willing to put some sort of shrimp in, what would you recommend that would have no possible chance of harming th fish?

yer cory is praying for death.. they dont like being alone at all... as for adding fish... no.. yer pushing yer luck as it is unless youve added a bigger filter than what came with the tank...

yeah, I was thinking that I should get another cory, just needed another opinion. The filter I have running on it is very big! lol, not exactly sure how big or what not but i know for sure it is very over-sized. Is it weird there is no algae in the tank? I was thinking of planting it up a lot soon, and adding a few shrimp, would this help clean up and make it better?

this should be two separate posts. otherwise its very confusing

that 10 gall is quite limited as 3 spots are one of the more mean gouramis. The only fish likely to escape a beating would be fish of similar size but this would then make that tank overstocked. Best bet is to either rethink your stance on the gouramis or just add a couple more corys. Can you specify what your buffalohead is? If it is Steatocranus elongatus then your tank is already overstocked and all the fish are at risk. I know you say that you would put in caves so the other fish can hide.... in this size tank they would die of the stress before they figure out there are caves available! GL

I agree with angel51087, the buffalohead will dominate a tank that size in no time. They are pretty feisty and normally can stand up to fish bigger than themselves. It will surely either kill or harass the rest of the fish in that tank. Although if i'm not mistaken the common buffalohead in the hobby is Steatocranus casuarius

i need to change that it's a a slender buffalo head, it's Steatocranus Tinanti, haven't seen any fights or aggression at all out of it.

I'm going to pick up another cory or two this weekend, I want to get rid of the gouramis, maybe trade them into my local fish store(if they do that kind of stuff) but thay had sort of damaged each other up at this point although they are definitely still very much alive.

good choice.... the 3 spots will be better for it and you wil be able to restock appropriately. Let us know the route you decide on. GL
