That's a cool loach too... but a quick search shows its predatory.
So is there a common name for these pearsei cichlids? I'm not seeing them for sale on either of the online fish sites I have used. Or are they an uncommonly available fish?
Wow, its hard to find any herbivorous cichlids... or anything else like them for that matter. Giant gourami sound cool too, but again... they get too big.
I have got to the point that most of the fish I get are on group buys with others so I dont go to the local fish store that often. My Pearsei came from Cichlid Connection and he is about 2 1/2 years old now. I really dont consider them that expensive probably $8 for a 1.5". They are not super rare just not too common. Very calm fish, but are eating machines.
Ah, sweet. Thanks for the pointer...cichlid connection shows them for sale, and yeah, they're actually pretty inexpensive. Only $4.00 for the smallest one for sale, which is what I would get.
I just figured if it was considered rare, it would be priced like discus or rares like EBJD... $50.00 on up. I'm cool on anything under 20 bucks.
Now I'm going to wait a couple days to do more homework... but its highly probable I might get a couple these.
Man, these are confusing fish to read about these "c.pearsei"... listings show them as aggressive but then the description might say how placid they are. Are they only aggressive toward other cichlids or fish their size? I'd love to hear more behavioral details like this from people who keep them.
Just too toss a few more in Geos/ eartheaters tend to do fine with small tankmates , discus are another peacful one . Also pleco was mentioned but keep in mind there are hundreds of species that span the size range from a few inches to a few feet. For example Green or blue phantom plecos are attractive and grow to ~8". There are also many other loach species , clown loaches are one that will get a nice size and wont bother anyone also wont cost an arm and a leg.
