Need ideas on FX5 media

Mine came with no media except for the foam that goes around the basket.

X2.. I had to buy all the media, just came with the white foam around each tray.

just bought some blue pads. So thats a bad idea? my tank is stocked heavily.

i added them, but they are made by fluval and designed specifically for the fx5. they also have a fine polishing pad. it's white in coloring.

my blue pads always seemed to clog and decrease water flow. i've heard others complain about the pads, too. i've heard that the fine, white, polishing pad clogs, too.

Ive got two of the blue pads in mine and it seems ok but when i put the fine white stuff in it almost stopped,now ive got an xp3 doing the polishing so dont use them in the fx5.

thanks for the replys so far... been doing some online searching and now I'm thinking maybe ceramic rings on the bottom tray, cut up scour pads in the 2nd tray and more ceramic rings in the top tray.... going to leave the outer foam as it comes with.... still thinking....

Never had a problem with the outside sponges getting clogged. It's the fine filtering pads that slow the FX5 down.

My FX5 is loaded with Eheim Substrat Pro. Works like a charm for bio.
