i don't get it... my front is the one of the biggest fish in the tank and by far the least agressive.... is it because he's by himself?

frontosa are not aggressive fish.
people tend to think that since they get big, up to 18 inches that they are tough, and can take care of themself.

In reality frontosa are very laid back fish, not only can a 3 inch brichardi kick there butt, frontosa are even scared of a plant moving.
They freak out at anything and take off slamming into the sides of the tank.

I'm not knocking frontosa, as its the fish i been breeding for 10 years.
My favorite fish, but it has its flaws.

So people think hey, it gets huge, it should do OK with this or that.
Not the case.

they prefer groups, as they are harem spawners.
most other fish will nip them, meaning the fins will not grow long, and the frontosa will slam into the glass when getting nipped.
most other fish will be more aggressive and thus get all the food, stunting the frontosa.
many fish will eat frontosa eggs, or keep them from breeding.
many fish are small, and frontosa will eat them.

really a frontosa group in a species only tank is the best idea.

they are fairly tolerant of a wide range of temps, and PH's.
TR more so than wilds.
