zzoscars can be bullys, untill the outher fish fights back that is. They grow very fast i bought a baby oscar ( he was the size of a dime maybe a lil bigger) 3 weeks later hes about 3" Oscars get around 12-16" so they will need a 75gallon for just one. They are also tank busters and will ram the glass some times. They will eat anything and poop alot. They are very messy so you will have to have a large bio filter. and frequent water changes is a must

i think a oscar could live in a 55 by its self. if a 75 then it could have some tank mates, but they couldnt get too big

Don't go the cheap route and score that walmart 55g set up. Once the oscar gets big he's going to look miserable because he can't turn around for nuttin. Long tanks look like enough room till you see how deep it really is.

I agree. An oscar should be kept in a 75 gallon tank. They can be aggressive, and will eat damn near anything and everything that you offer to it. They do have quite a pesonality. Mine will "beg" for food , he lets me pet him, and then "dances" so he can get his shrimp pellets. I have a tiger oscar, and he is my favorite fish. Extremely fast growers & have a massive bioload.

Oscars can grow super fast. Especially if your good on your water changes, filter cleaning, etc. Mine grew from 1.5" to 9" in 6 months. I had to give him up because he was haveing seizures in the middle of the night. He would trash around the tank, splash me with water with a closed lid from 2' away, and pretty much keeping me up at night. Some of the other fish must've been bothering him or something. Besides the night terrors, he was a very personable fish. Let me pet it during water changes and feeding time. Fed it feeders once a month. Try not to relay on feeders as a staple or it'll develop Hole-In-The-Head disease. They can also get HITH from poor water quality as well. Mine was in a 75g with a Fluval 404 filtering the tank. Oscars come in Tiger, Red, Albino Tiger, and Albino Red...sometimes "Wild" Then you can get real picky and have Lutino (which are white, but retain normal colored eyes and are usually sold with the Albinos), Long-finned, Snow, etc. Hope this helps. Tell your bother I said Good Luck and hope he enjoys the Oscar for years to come :D

They like having room to grow!!! Keep the water up for it, and watch for the dreaded "hith" ! One of the all-time popular fish! Great cichlid,

1 inch per month at 82 degrees they need at least a 75 gallon when full grown for 1 oscar if you plan on adding other fish you need a 100 gallon jds firemouths any not so aggresive sa cichlid feed pellets as a staple food they are very messy
