So I am setting up a Lake Malawi tank, it is a 55 and so far the only fish I have are 5 yellow labs and 1 Ahli. I want to get my bottom dwellers next I believe before adding anymore Cichlids to the tank. I am trying to get a "group" at a time.

I was looking into and recomended the Synodontis petricola, so I was wondering if anyone keeps them and can give me any info on them.

Thanks in Advance...

G

I don't have much info on them, I'm sorry about that, but I had two before and I loved them! Mine were very active, and ate anything I put in there. They loved the blood worm and beef heart cubes. Sadly my other fish ate them.. I'm hoping my lfs will get more in soon and I can try them out again.

Well, thank you for the reply!! I plan to get 3-4 of them. Good luck in finding you some new ones ;)

Thanks for the article!!! I hope I can find ones that look like the first pic!!! How big is the tank you have yours in? Do you think 3 will be ok in a 55?

Man, too bad you weren't at the Catfish convention............they we're selling for between 10-15 bucks for nice size ones at the auction, they had lots of them!
That would of been nice!!! They never have meets around me :( I missed the cichlid one they had in Chicago :irked:

three will be fine in a 55G

I have mine in a 90g

As for auctions, I got all three of mine for 17 bucks :headbang2

True petricolas are hard to find. Most petricolas for sale are lucipinnis (formerly dwarf petricolas). Both are hardy, active fish.

They instinctively dart away when cichlids show interest in them ... so good choice with rift lake cichlids. Just make sure they have refuge to hide in.
