They really dont require anything special from most other Amphilophus or large CA cichlids. Trimacs accept a wide range of water conditions, my Ph is around 7 and temp is about 80. Feed them a good pellet like Hakari Bio-Gold+ as the staple and supplement with Krill, earthworms/night crawlers, silversides, market shrimp. When mine was small I used Omega One Marine Pellets along with Bio-gold+ as the staple very good stuff in Omega One. I would stay away from store bought feeders as they could introduce unwanted pathogens i.e. internal parasites, ich ect. Trimacs may or may not accept tank mates and require at least a 90 gal IMO to thrive, although 75 would work as bare min for one. They dig a lot so sand is a suitable substrate along with some rocks placed directly on the bottom of the tank and drift wood. Pool filter sand is good and cheap. Trimacs have no special lighting requirements so use whatever you like that makes them look good I just use one 6700 full spectrum bulb. Plants will not work so dont bother. Do at least 25% weekly water changes, 50% is better if you can. There is no need for carbon in the filter unless used for a couple of days to get rid of meds. They grow fast if kept in a good environment, and can get to around 8+ in a year if its a male, growth will start to slow down after that. Thats about it, if I left anything out someone will fill in the blanks. Good Luck, they are very good looking and interesting fish.
