Hi All,
just a quick request to those of you who frequent this forum:

I am currently toying around with reformatting the primitivefishes.com and LEP.net sites and could use your input on the interface, site, etc. i am currently experimenting in the wordpress.com blog format, which can be transferred into a website format pretty easily. the interface is very easy to use in terms of updating the site, and it has a much cleaner look and loads much faster.

Your input would be greatly appreciated, and if it works out I will migrate the wordpress.com sites to the domains you all know. right now there are a lot of placeholder images and text, but you should be able to get the idea. A rotating/random set of primitive fishes images runs across the top, and then each heading has the associated image of the fish (a bichir for the polypterus section, gar for gar section, etc).

thanks for any input - best to leave comments here, but you can also leave them on the site too. thanks!--

I'll agree that it looks a lot cleaner, but I think it's too bare to make any good criticisms right now. The header photos look amazing, but is there a purpose to having them potentially differ from the subject you're looking at? I click on Gar, and the header is of a bowfin. I click on Sturgeon & Paddlefish and it shows me a ropefish.

So far so good, though.

I like this new look. I like the darker background. Pretty easy to navigate, looks pretty clean. Overall quite nice. Any plans for an extended photo section?

Yeah, I like it a lot. Very easy to see options and links to parts of the site. I also like the picture at the top.

-thanks very much for the input so far all, it is greatly appreciated. for those of you who have been familiar with past iterations of the site (including the "current" one at www.primitivefishes.com) you know i don't get around to updates very often (mainly due to research/work). this new format would allow easy updates, whether big or small, and the host system keeps up with their software so it runs optimally with current browsers, etc etc.

in response to some of the earlier comments:

-the large photos at the top are part of a random rotating pool, so they are different each time you refresh the page. under each heading (bowfin, lungfish, etc) there is a static photo of a fish that directly relates to that heading. i know this may be a somewhat confusing issue, and i will look into getting static photos instead of rotating photos for the main banner pics, however, i kind of like the option of having a lot of large photos to keep things varied.

-Kevin - yes! i would very much like to do a large photo section for various fishes (like the very first version of my site), and i plan on doing so in the near future. this will allow for contributions from others as well, which would build up a library of good photos for reference.

thanks again, and please keep the input/suggestions coming!--

im not seeing a reason for you not too... i like it better.

Would it be possible to have a rotating pool of relevant pictures for the species at the top? So if looking at gar, it would roll through the gar pics, etc, then just use any for general sections?

I can't wait until the galleries start fleshing out.

great idea...will look into that and see; i am somewhat constrained by what the site software will let me do, but if that is an option i will definitely incorporate it. thanks!--

i like it better. it is easy, and there are lots of options to explore with it. once all sections are fully expanded i think it will be a great resource. on things like sturgeons would it incorporate all sp. of sturgeons or just north americas?
