For a wet pet I would get an Oscar.

For a glass banging wet pet I would get a Red Devil.
 
if you are looking at other fish other than cichlids i would consider polypterus, datnoids or even a smaller ray as long as any other companions are pretty chilled out

keep us up to date on what you decide
 
Amphilophus roberstoni, ch. intermediums, or theraps irregulare if you can find them. Otherwise some hysp. temporalis
 
i have a robertsonni and he is great, not a really aggressive fish mind and not a big grower but still a cracking fish who seems to hold his own with a green terror convict parrot ang juvi jag
 
planted with wild discus and tetras would look great but i'd go with a pair of jags
