NEED MAJOR HELP - about to have a power outage tomorrow

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's an insanely long programmed outage. Especially in the winter, I live in a house with no insulation, and have a baby on the way; she would freeze this time of year with no heat.

I agree though I think if you can manually agitate the water the o2 will be fine. I had to seal my tanks 100% air tight for 4.5 hours when I fumigated my house, my fish did fine with just an small power head making agitation. I would worry about heat loss for 9 hours. I think I would try and warp my tanks with blankets in between agitation sessions.

I think this is too late but don't feet the fish. It would be better not to feed the fish 1 or even two days before hand then do a water change the night before. Get the water as clean as possible.

I would absolutely go with the rented generator idea. Then there would be no stress on the fish during so. I also wonder why it is so long 8-9 hours is a very long time. I would be worried about food in the fridge as well. Might wanna see the electric company may reimburse you for the generator.

I like the genarator idea and may need to invest in a small one sometime soon.
That wouldt have me less worried when we wouldt suffer from electricity failure.
Let us know how you managed things when power is back on.

sorry for the late response. i bought battery powered aerator at my local wal mart, but my power never went off but my friend across the street had his power off.

it was 8-9 hrs. they were just saying the time frame of when it might be down and when it might be back up. it was a few hours though.
