need new laptop! suggestions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can comment from a company perspective. We do a laptop review every two years which looks at everything from price, to performance, to support, the whole schebang. Out of every vendor that cared to respond, Dell still has the best performance, feel, and price out of all of them, and who we chose to be our vendr for the next 2 years.

My one piece of advice is this, don't buy the crappy off the shelf models at best buy or any other big store, custom order if you can. I rarely see one that runs well out of the box without have to tweak the hell out of it. Also, be sure to go with Windows 7, it us truly a operating system I enjoy working in so far. It's what Vista should have been, Fast and Reliable.

MAC

Ok....why is everyone so Pro mac here? I'm working on a Mac Book, 2.0 Dual Core, 4 Gigs of RAM, Snow Leopard. The ONLY thing that has kept me working on it is multi-touch. I have not found all the apps I need to do my day to day job, which in turn leaves parallels. And believe me Mac OS falls on it's face when running VM's. Any hint of performance goes out the window. So....why is everyone so Pro Mac here? I'm not trying to start a war, but I would really like to understand.

get a mac book pro, pretty reliable. My cousin has it and after using it, it makes my Hp mini netbook w/ windows 7 to shame.

I think I will choose between lenova & toshiba direct. lenova T400 has 15% & toshiba L510 20%

so all u techie pros - can u assess the 2 below for me? I think the toshiba is slightly better in price & memory.

I like the processor specs on the Thinkpad more not to mention DDR3. I do think it would be the better performer. 1 gig of ram difference won't matter when running Win 7 unless you are doing some high end stuff. I can't comment on style, form or function as I have not used either of them.
