I have used pieces of wood with reddish tint in it without problems, except they sometimes leach tannins, (I like them, some aquarists don't) they tint water like tea.
If concerned soak the wood few days in tank water, and place a least favorite fish in with it with an ayirstone running, if it dies, don't use the wood.
The only woods I know are toxic, are yew, ivy, and lilac, but horse chestnut, and most pine like (evergreen woods are discouraged)
